As a person deeply involved with publications,
I’d like your help.
[FPO]—For Publications Only—is planning a great fourth issue. It’s called “Magazines from A-to-Z.” It will be an issue-length grazing section full of tricks and tips, recommendations and resources, profiles, and advice generated from your suggestions.
Here are the 10 subject areas that we hope will generate some great contributions:
- Recommended or influential book (on design or editing, but any interesting creative book).
- Tips and tricks that stimulate the creative muscle.
- Mentor/Influences (Whom do you admire?) in the form of, "If you could ask (provide name) one question, what would it be? Then, we'll try to contact them, if they’re still living, that is.
- Favorite font, unusual typographic techniques in application.
- Recommended obscure-but-worthy magazine to profile and interview editor/AD.
- Program tips and tricks (add-ons, system enhancers, utilities, etc.) or smart use of the programs themselves.
- Go-to Web sites (relevant or just interesting).
- Applied examples of photographers/illustrators whose work provided a clever solution to a tough creative challenge.
- Workflow suggestions that improve creativity and productivity.
- A favorite spread—a great layout and the story behind it (your chance to show off great design and editorial ideas).
Every contributor whose tip(s) is published in [FPO] will be rewarded with attribution, a Web site link and an [FPO] “Get Creative” tee.
Your contributions don’t have to be polished or extensive, or even follow the categories above. They just need to be as many big or small cool ideas that you’d like to share. I hope you’ll consider adding something to the issue.
Email your ideas directly to me. I’ll respond to every one.
